XBMC based OpenELEC 4.2.0 available for Download with Updated Apps
OpenELEC development team finally announces the release stable OpenELEC 4.2.0 with new features. Well this is the next stable release after previous OpenELEC 4.0 series. After releasing lot of beta releases, finally OpenELEC 4.2.0 is available for download with new features. As you all know that OpenELEC is another distro which is specifically designed for home theater PCs and based on XBMC media player.
According to official announcement, OpenELEC 4.2.0 is based on Linux Kernel 3.16, Mesa 10.3, llvm 3.5 and Xorg 1.16. The developers alsos updated the NVIDIA Graphics drivers in the 64-bit image to 340.x along with systemd to systemd 216, connectionmanager to connman 1.25 and XBMC ro XBMC 13.2 "Gotham". They switched their libc from eglibc to glibc and also upgraded to glibc 2.20 and binutils 2.24. You can also download the OpenELEC 4.2.0 for your machine.
The OpenELEC 4.2.0 provides support for nss-mdns, support to perform filesystem checks on every boot for our both default system partitions and ffmpeg 2.4 to their corresponding x86 builds. By switching FFmpeg 2.4 to x86 builds, this release now provides support for H.265 and Dolby Atmos formats. This release also includes new MMC/SDCard driver for Raspberry Pi which now act as default sdcard driver. XBMC 13.1 based OpenELEC 4.0.6 released with Kernel 3.14.8 & Bug Fixes
OpenELEC team officially announces the release of OpenELEC 4.0.6 with several bug fixes and improvements. With this release, OpenELEC 4.0.6 becomes next stable release under OpenELEC 4.0 stable series. As you all know that OpenELEC is Linux Distro specially designed to run XBMC as home theater.
According to official announcement, OpenELEC 4.0.6 release includes few bug fixes which includes major security fixes along with several improvements since OpenELEC 4.0.5 release. This release primarily includes fixes and improvements, so if you are using previous version then upgrade it to 4.0.6 version.
Apart from usual bug fixes and package updates, OpenELEC 4.0.6 includes fixed boot issues on some AMD mainboards, support for some more Intel, AR3k and ATH6k Bluetooth and WLAN devices. OpenELEC 4.0.6 is based on XBMC 13.1 "Gotham" which includes several new features.

OpenELEC 5.0 RC3 released with Updated Packages & Kernel 3.17 Support
OpenELEC development team officially announces the release of third release candidate of OpenELEC 5.0 with minor updates and fixes. As you know that this is the maintenance release, also known as OpenELEC 4.97.3 which is the base for the upcoming OpenELEC 5.0 stable release.
According to official announcement, OpenELEC 5.0 RC3 comes with updated core components including updated OpenELEC settings 0.5.7, kodi 14-8, vdpauinfo 0.9, boost 1_57_0, libvdpau 0.9, xorg-server 1.16.3, ethtool 3.18, rpcbind 0.2.2, dbus 1.8.12, dosfstools 3.0.27, linux kernel 3.17.7, connman 1.27, and kodi-pvr-addons.
From previous version, OpenELEC 5.0 already renamed its brand from XBMC to Kodi brand. The renaming of XBMC brand to Kodi brand affects more than the GUI where as all references in code have been changed and in the OpenELEC filesystem /storage/.xbmc will be recreated as a symlink to /storage/.kodi to ensure hardcoded paths in addons or scripts continue to work. OpenELEC 5.0 Beta 3 released with Updated Kernel & Support for Kodi
OpenELEC development team officially announces the release of OpenELEC 5.0 Beta 3 which is the third maintenance release under 5.x series. This release is also known as OpenELEC 4.95.3 as you know that OpenELEC 4.95 branch act as test releases for upcoming stable OpenELEC 5.0 version.
According to official announcement, OpenELEC 5.0 Beta 3 comes with updated core components like updated kodi 14, kmod 19, bcm2835 driver, bcm2835 bootloader and kodi pvr addons. This release also includes updated Linux Kernel 3.17.3 and updated dbus 1.8.10.

OpenELEC and XBMC development team officially announces the release of OpenELEC 5.0 Beta 1 with new features under 5.0 series. This release also known as OpenELEC 4.95.1 which comes under OpenELEC 4.95 release series which is specifically designed as test releases for upcoming OpenELEC 5.0 release.

OpenELEC 4.2 Beta 6 released with Kernel 3.16.2 & MMC/SDCard Driver Support
XBMC and OpenELEC development team officially announces the release of OpenELEC 4.1.6 which is also known as OpenELEC 4.2 Beta 6 with new improvements and fixes. As you know that OpenELEC 4.1 series is bascially a test series for upcoming OpenELEC 4.2 stable distro after release of previous stable OpenELEC 4.0 version.
According to official announcement, OpenELEC 4.2 Beta 6 comes with few bug fixes, security fixes and minor improvements since the release of last OpenELEC 4.2 Beta 5 version. Apart from fixes, this beta release includes updated Mesa 10.3-rc3, llvm 3.5.0 and Linux Kernel 3.16.2. The team also fixes a crash in OpenELEC installer when pairing a PS3 remote.
This release also updates the RaspberryPi firmware which includes last fixes and new features. It also includes addition of STK1160 framegrabber, CH341 USB-serial support along with PSTATE CPU scaling driver for Intel Systems. OpenELEC 4.2.1 released with Fixed Corrupt ASS/SSA Subtitles & Other Fixes
XBMC and OpenELEC development team officially announces the release of OpenELEC 4.2.1 with minor bugfixes, security fixes and improvements since OpenELEC 4.2.0 release. Few days ago, OpenELEC team announces the OpenELEC 4.2.0, stable release and this is the first release under 4.2.x series. The team claims to fix some of the issues which were reported since OpenELEC 4.2.0 release.
According to official announcement, OpenELEC 4.2.1 comes with double keypresses with remotes along with no or corrupt ASS/SSA subtitles. Earlier WLAN was not working while using Aetheros HTC based WLAN sticks is now fixed in this release. OpenELEC 4.2 Beta 5 released with XBMC 13.2, FFmpeg 2.3.3 & Systemd 216
OpenELEC development team officially announces the release of OpenELEC 4.1.5 which is also known as OpenELEC 4.2 Beta 5 with new features and updated applications. As you know that OpenELEC 4.1.x is the beta series for OpenELEC 4.2 which is primarily available for testing purposes so that stable version of OpenELEC 4.2 will be released.
According to official announcement, OpenELEC 4.2 Beta 5 comes with minor bug fixes, security fixes and few improvements since OpenELEC 4.1.4 distro release. Apart from regular bug fixes, this release includes updated XBMC 13.2 "Gotham" final version along with FFmpeg 2.3.3, Mesa 10.3-RC1 and systemd 216.
