MATE 1.8.1 Desktop PPA officially Available for Ubuntu 14.04 "Trusty Tahr"
Martin Wimpress, developer at Ubuntu MATE, officially announces the release of PPA for MATE 1.8.1 packages specially for Ubuntu 14.04 "Trusty Tahr" which have been side ported from Debian. From past few months, the developers are consistently working on stable PPA for MATE desktop designed for Ubuntu and now the PPA is available for public usage.
According to official announcement made by Martin Wimpress at Google Plus Page, he state that "One of the requests that has come out of my discussions with Ubuntu Technical Board was creating a MATE 1.8.1 PPA for Ubuntu Trusty 14.04. So, I have designed PPA for MATE desktop which installs MATE 1.8.1 desktop environment on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr system.
He also state that making a PPA for MATE is quite easy instead of providing packages in the official repositories. Currently this is in testing phase but soon will be available for public use. He also mentioned how could any one install MATE 1.8.1 desktop environment using PPA on Ubuntu 14.04 "Trusty Tahr" system. You might also like to check out other latest Software News on our website.
Step Wise Installation of MATE 1.8.1 Desktop Environment using PPA on Ubuntu 14.04 "Trusty Tahr"
Step 1 : Before beginning the installation, Open the terminal and run or copy the following command in terminal to add PPA for Ubuntu MATE on your Ubuntu 14.04 "Trusty Tahr" system.
$ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-mate-dev/ppa
Step 2 : Next, run or copy the following command in terminal to add PPA for Ubuntu MATE which is specifically designed for Trusty Tahr system.
$ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-mate-dev/trusty-mate
Step 3 : Next, run or copy the following command in terminal to update recently added PPAs in the software repository on your Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr system.
$ sudo apt-get update
Step 4 : Next, run or copy the following command in terminal to upgrade existing PPAs to newer one on your Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr system.
$ sudo apt-get upgrade
Step 5 : Finally, run or copy the following command in terminal to install latest stable MATE 1.8.1 desktop environment on your Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr system.
$ sudo apt-get install --no-install-recommends ubuntu-mate-core ubuntu-mate-desktop

Ubuntu MATE Beta 1 going to become Official Ubuntu Flavor with New Themes
Ubuntu MATE development team officially announces the release of first beta flavor of Ubuntu MATE distro with new features and updated packages. As you know that in July, Ubuntu MATE already made a request for official flavor status from Ubuntu Technical Board. This is a beta release and currently available for testing purposes.
According to technical board meeting which was happened in early August, it is officially confirmed that the Ubuntu Techincal Board will support Ubuntu MATE after completing some of the formalities which are raised by technical board. According to official announcement, Ubuntu MATE Beta 1 comes wih new themes and addition of specific artwork. The community includes Ubuntu MATE wallpapers, LightDM theme, Plymouth theme and new desktop theme in this release. Apart from these new theme, this release also includes minor improvements like desktop policy privilege fixes, meta package improvements and aligning the core packages with other Ubuntu flavors.
The Ubuntu MATE Beta 1 also contains few issues related with Plymouth and minimizing Chrome or Chromium. This release comes with two new themes named as Ambiant MATE and Radiant MATE. The developers are planning to replace folder icons in these new themes with ones which uses MATE green as the base color for folders. Ubuntu MATE 14.10 Alpha 2 available with EFI Support, Improved Themes, Fixes
Ubuntu Mate development team officially announces the release of Ubuntu MATE 14.10 Alpha 2 "Utopic Unicorn" with new features and fixes issues which were reported since Alpha 1 release. Ubuntu MATE is a flavor which provides default MATE desktop environment and this alpha release includes improvements in existing packages.
According to official announcement, Ubuntu MATE 14.10 Alpha 2 "Utopic Unicorn" comes with support for booting EFI computers along with addition of language-selector-gnome after the request from gnome community. It also provides "out of the box" accessibility for blind or visually impaired individuals, ubuntu-mate-settings package to provide sane defaults and ubuntu-like panel layout. Download the ISO Image of Ubuntu MATE 14.10 Alpha 2 for your machine.
If we look at improvements, then Ubuntu MATE 14.10 Alpha 2 includes improved seeds and meta packages, improved Ambiance and Radiance themes, improved mono-icons to better integrate with MATE and improved font rendering. The main fixes includes fixed Network Manager applet, fixed default icons in LibreOffice and fixed inconsistent theme in live session installer. Other changes includes removal of some features which were part of Alpha 1 or earlier release. The features which are removed from Ubuntu 14.10 Alpha 2 includes removed caja-image-converter, caja-share, mate-user-share and removed remmina. SparkyLinux 3.4 "Annagerman" released with New and Updated Applications
SparkyLinux team officially announces the release of SparkyLinux 3.4 codenamed "Annagerman" which is available in MATE, Xfce and Base (Openbox) flavors. Well this new updated release includes several new and updated packages along with few improvements. Also, review other recent Linux Distro releases to know what's new in them ?
According to official announcement, SparkyLinux 3.4 "Annagerman" comes with Linux Kernel 3.14, MATE 1.8, Openbox 3.5.2-6 and Xfce 4.10. All the packages of this release are upgraded from Debian testing repositories. This release also provides support for installation on machines with EFI.
The systemd is considered as default init system and new package named "hardinfo" is added in this release. Apart from this, teamviewer 8 is updated to version 9 and menu of Openbox recieves few extra scripts. The main highlighted feature of SparkyLinux 3.4 release is that it includes new applications in SparkyLinux repository.
