Ubuntu 14.10 "Utopic Unicorn" will be based on latest Kernel 3.16.4
Joseph Salisbury, developer at Ubuntu, officially announces that the upcoming Ubuntu 14.10 "Utopic Unicorn" will introduce Linux Kernel 3.16.4 as default kernel in it. Recently, during Ubuntu Kernel meet, it was decided the Ubuntu developers that they should provide Linux Kernel 3.16.4 with final release of Ubuntu 14.10 "Utopic Unicorn" which is going to happen on 26th October 2014.
According to official announcement made by Joseph Salisbury, the Ubuntu Kernel is again rebased to version 3.16.4 upstream stable kernel. Currently, this is available for testing as of 3.16.0-21.28 upload to the archive. Well the release of Ubuntu 14.10 "Utopic Unicorn" is quite near and still the Ubuntu developers planned to upgrade Ubuntu Kernel newer one.
The Ubuntu developers and Ubuntu Kernel always try to include last possible stable Kernel release so that their user might get a chance to use latest added features. The only problem they faced is the time limit as every newer version of Kernel to be implemented requires lot of testing and issue fixes, so they need to start before quite a while so that it won't affect other applications.
There are also rumors about including Linux Kernel 3.17 to Utopic Unicorn, but I think that's not possible because the Ubuntu development team already freezes the development of Ubuntu 14.10 "Utopic Unicorn" and Linux Kernel 3.16.4 will be the most advanced kernel available as default in Ubuntu 14.10 "Utopic Unicorn". Ubuntu receives updated Netflix User Agent & HTML5 to watch Streams in Chrome
Canonical and Netflix developers officially announces that now Ubuntu users will be able to watch Netflix videos directly on their Google Chrome web browser after updating user agent of Netflix. Well you know that Netflix user agent allows you to get information about which operating systems are connected to its service along with what browser.
Few days ago, the Netflix developers and Ubuntu developers resolved the issue of hacked Netflix. This issue was resolved by updating one of their library along with Netflix update. The updated user agent of Netflix allows Ubuntu and Linux users to watch Netflix videos on their native Google Chrome browser and choosing HTML5 option.
Currently, the user agent of Netflix is natively supported by Google Chrome browser whereas other browser still faces the issues of Netflix hack while playing videos. The only reason behind it is that Chromium doesn't include any DRM (Digital Rights Management) support whereas Firefox supports DRM which is not ready yet. This technology embedded in the browser allows its content provider to protect the stream. You might also like to check out other latest Software News on our website.
