Ebook Manager, Calibre 2.1 released with Kobo and HTC C Driver Support & Fixes


Calibre developers officially announces the release of Calibre 2.1 with new features and several bug fixes. The Calibre team releases a newer version frequently but few days back, the team has announces their new major 2.x series and this is the first version under 2.x series. This is one of the major release with large number of changes and improvements in Calibre software.

According to official announcement, Calibre 2.1 comes with support for new Kobo Auro H2O driver and firmware 3.8.0 along with support for HTC C driver. It also includes new tool which allows you to easily test templates. The EPUM and MOBI catalog generation also allows you to use full template language including all custom columns.

Apart from these new features, Calibre 2.1 also includes several bug fixes like fixed soft-hyphens causing rendering artifacts with some fonts due to a bug in Qt 5. The Book list feature of Calibre 2.1 receives fixed CTRL + Home/End which doesn't select first or last book. The Calibre 2.1 for Mac OS X includes fixed workaround for Qt 5 bug which causes popup menu on the author sort button in the edit metadata dailog to not respond if the mouse button if not released once before clicking menu entries and also fixes background jobs stealing input focus if they require the use of Qt WebKit. Calibre 1.42 released with Support to add Covers to Books & Bug Fixes


Calibre team officially announces the release of Calibre 1.42 with several new features along with minor bug fixes. According to official announcement, Calibre 1.42 comes with new tool which allows you to add a cover to the book. It automatically generates HTML wrapper and takes care of marking the covers files as covers in the OPF. This release also improves the performance of inline spell checking especially noticeable when editing large HTML files.

Calibre 1.42 also includes addition of a check for HTML files with non UTF-8 encoding declarations. A new function is added in template language to use grouping regular expressions with group where you can replace the matched groups with result of another template.

Apart from these new features, Calibre 1.42 also includes minor bug fixes like fix of integration with ebook.de broken by website changes. The various problems arises when editing EPUB files with non-ascii internal file names on OS X is now fixed in this release.

The unused CSS is removed which automatically fixes the error where an HTML file links to a missing stylesheet. A new news source named as "Economic and Political Weekly" is added by Krittika Goyal where as Deadspin new source is improved in this release. Calibre 2.4.0 receives Random Cover Generation Support & New News Sources


Calibre developers officially announces the release of Calibre 2.4.0 with new features, improved and new news sources along with several bug fixes. Some of the earlier new sources like Today's Zaman, Wall Street Journal and High Country News are improved in this release. As we all know that Calibre is popular eBook editor, converter and viewer available for all platforms.

According to official announcement, Calibre 2.4.0 comes with new random cover generation algorithm which generates covers using many different color schemes and cover styles. The saved searches popup is redesigned as dockable window. The editing of saved searches can be done inline and global search/replace keyboard shortcuts work in the saved searches window.

You can also change the text of "Mark selected text" menu entry depending on whether it will mark or unmark the text. This release allows you to undoing metadata download by long-clicking the Download metadata button and choosing "Undo last metadata download". It allows using Enter key to select cover and left/right keys to move between metadata results.

Apart from these new features, this release also includes several bug fixes like fixed regression of Calibre 2.3 which broke creation of collections on the device when metadata management was set to manual. It fixes displaying multiple pages per screen not working in calibre 2.x with some books due to change in Qt 5. Among other fixes, it includes fixed unintuitive behavior of back and forward buttons when going all the way back to the first item in the history and fixed tags with angle brackets not being displayed in the Book Details panel. Ebook Management Tool, Calibre 2.3 receives Improved News Sources & Fixes


Calibre developers officially announces the release of Calibre 2.3 with several new features and bug fixes. Among new features, this release also comes with improved new sources like dawn, american thinker, anchorage daily news and financial times. As you know that, Calibre is a software which allows you to convert, edit and view ebooks directly on your system.

According to official announcement, Calibre 2.3 comes with new feature in cover grid where you can dynamically adjust the size of the in memory cover thumbnail cache based on window size to ensure flickr free rendering even on very large screens. When someone try to download books, it shows a popup message telling the user that the books will be added to the calibre library automatically, to help new users understand what is happening. 

This release also try to detect when a chapter has a page break before the start of the chapter's text resulting in a leading blank page and override the page break. Apart from these new features, this release also includes minor bug fixes like fixed regression which causes running in debug mode on OS X to not have a menubar on dock icon.

The Calibre for Mac OS receives fixed restarting of calibre not working if calibre.app is placed in a location with spaces in the path. Among other fixes, it includes fixed author sort field not being marked red initially when the author sort does not match the author due to Qt 5 behavior change and fixed downloading ebook from Project Gutenberg via the builtin browser not working because of changes to Project Gutenberg website. Calibre 1.48 released with Driver for Kiano Booky Light & Other Bug Fixes


Calibre team officially announces the release of Calibre 1.48 with new changes and minor bug fixes. This release includes fixes of previously release Calibre 1.47 and also contains improved new sources such as Maximum PC and El Correo. Calibre is a ebook reader, editor, convertor and creator which is primarily used to manage multiple ebooks at a time.

According to official announcement, Calibre 1.48 allows reloading of current book by pressing F5 or Ctrl+R. It also allows you to change the case of selected text by right clicking and choosing the appropriate change case action. This release also includes driver for Kiano Booky Light which earlier creates some problems. You can easily make the list of bookmarks a dockable window which can be kept open while reading the book.

Calibre 1.48 also allows you to specify multiple internal files to open and get rid of no longer needed --edit-file option. It also make the table of contents panel a dockable window so it can be moved around and even made into a separate floating window. Apart from these new features, Calibre 1.48 also receives minor bug fixes such as fix over-aggressive caching which causes multiple cover grid emblem rules to not work.

This release also fixes a regression which causes clicking on links in the preview panel that leads to destinations in the same HTML file popping up a spurious error message and fix a regression which causes tags to not be sorted when displayed in the book details panel. It includes more robust implementation of current tag detection for Live CSS and uses same logic as matching tag highlighting. Calibre development team officially announces the release of Calibre 2.15 with new features in edit mode along with several fixes and improvements. As you know that Calibre always releases a new update after certain period of time and this time they exactly provide the new update on the occasion of new year. Hope the new updated Calibre version might be appreciated by its users.

According to official announcement, Calibre 2.15 comes with builtin functions to change case of text, ignoring HTML tags in the matched text and also includes support for driver for Papyre. This release also converts images encoded as data URIs in the input document into normal images as some ebook reader software cannot handle data URIs.

The main highlighted feature of this release is the addition of auto-completion for links and it also allows auto-fixing of file not in spine errors. Apart from these new features, Calibre 2.15 also includes several fixes such as fix regression that broke the markdown-calibre command and fixes incorrect conversion of MOBI files that wrap their content inside <a> anchor tags.

Among other fixes, Calibre 2.15 includes updated Amazon plugin for website changes and fixes a regression issue which causes the Home key to not move to the start of the line on lines of containing un-indented tags along with fixed scrollbar which sometimes not visible if the differences contain a few, very long lines. Calibre 2.5.0 gets Windows Driver Support for Trekstor Pyrus 2 LED & Other Fixes

Calibre developers officially announces the release of Calibre 2.5.0 which is another update of Calibre with minor new additions along with several bug fixes. Well this is another maintenance release which primarily includes several bug fixes and improved new sources like The Hindu, Carta and Sueddeutsche Zeitung.

According to official announcement, Calibre 2.5.0 comes with Windows driver for Trekstor Pyrus 2 LED. This release allows changing the website which is used as a dictionary for looking up words in the viewer. You can click the Preferences button in the viewer and choose the dictionaries tab to customize the website.

Apart from these new features, Calibre 2.5.0 also includes several bug fixes like fixed a typo preventing calibre from recognizing the new Kobo Aura H2O and fixes leading or trailing hyphens on words being ignored when spell checking. It also fixes a regression caused by Qt 5 behavior change which causes incorrect colors to be shown when viewing MOBI files which use CSS3 color specifications internally.

The spell check feature of Calibre 2.5.0 also receives minor fixes like fix replaced words coming back into the list when toggling the "Show only misspelled words" setting and fix replacing a word with multiple words causing the replacements to show up erroneously in the list of misspelled words.

Among other fixes, Calibre 2.5.0 includes fixed drag and drop of books onto a language not setting the language in tag browser, fixed getting cover from EPUB files that have no cover image by rendering the first page as the cover not working and fixed disabled color schemes not being saved. Ebook Creator, Calibre 1.47 released with Cover Grid Support & Minor Bug Fixes


Calibre team officially announces the release of Calibre 1.47 with new changes and bug fixes. This release primarily includes fixes of previous release and improves New Yorker news sources. As you know that Calibre is used to convert eBook files from one format to another.

According to official announcement, Calibre 1.47 comes with cover grid feature which allows user defined emblems to be displayed next to covers. The Ebook viewer now uses wiktionary.org and wordnik.com as dictionary providers instead of dict.org. This updated release also allows customizing the templates which are used for creating new, blank HTML/CSS files via Preferences->Editor settings.

This release also format the series number using roman numerals when inserting a metadata jacket. This behavior can be disabled by using a custom jacket template. A new function author links is introduced for each author of a book returns the author link value entered in Manage Authors. Apart from these new features, Calibre 1.47 also includes bug fixes. Some of the bug fixes includes fix incorrect results when running replace all on marked text and more than one replacement is made, fix subsetting of fonts not working if the text contains non-BMP unicode characters, fix HTML parser used in the news download subsystem not preserving whitespace inside tags and fix cursor positioning not working when creating a new file from a template.

Calibre developers officially announces the release of Calibre 2.12 with several new features along with minor bugfixes and improvements. Calibre team continously releasing new version with several new features and bugfixes. In past one year, the expansion of Calibre as a software has increased a lot because lot of users using it on their personal desktops, laptops and tablets.

According to official announcement, Calibre 2.12 comes with redesigned "Add a custom news source" dialog to make it easier to use with more powerful python editor and also makes translations of User Manual available in many different languages. The Edit feature of Calibre now implements auto-indent and automatically complete the closing tag in HTML/XML files when typing </.

Among other new features, it includes driver for Verso E71b ebook reader and also provide search and replace function mode in edit option of Calibre. This release also improves list of news sources such as Wall Street Journal, New Yorker, Le Monde, Defense News, Digital Journal, Cracked.com, Boston Globe, RealClear Politics, EcoGeek and The Friday Times.
